Biggles Flies Over celebrates one of the most enduring characters in British aviation literature.
The painting features a Biggles toy aircraft suspended above a stack of well-read Biggles paperbacks by Captain W. E. Johns. For many readers, these books were an introduction to aviation, adventure and a lifelong fascination with aircraft.
Having grown up reading the Biggles stories myself, I was inspired to create the painting as a tribute to the books that first sparked my imagination and interest in aviation. The familiar titles, worn spines and suspended aircraft are intended to capture that sense of nostalgia shared by so many readers.
Rather than focusing on a particular aircraft type or historical event, Biggles Flies Over celebrates the stories that inspired generations to look skyward long before they ever visited an airfield, museum or airshow.
Originally exhibited at GAVA, the painting attracted considerable interest and the original work has since found a new home. Fine art prints are now available.
Whether displayed in a study, office, library or alongside an aviation collection, Biggles Flies Over is a celebration of the books, stories and memories that helped shape a lifelong appreciation of aviation.
